Support care fostering

There are children and young people in Hull whose families are having difficulties with their everyday family life. When this happens, support care foster carers can help these families stay together by sharing the care of these children. The plans for children who come into short break care are usually to return to their family or extended family.

About support care placements

Wherever possible, every support care foster carer is matched with a child and family for regular support care which is planned in advanced. Sometimes support carers also provide emergency care for children that need a place to stay at very short notice.

Durations of support care you can expect

Support care foster carers can offer time in their own home for children from as little as one night each week, one weekend each month, holidays, or anything up to 28 days – whatever you have to offer.

Support care requirements

To provide support care you must meet the following requirements -

• availability - able to arrange your availability and fostering schedule around your current commitments and family life
• skills - a caring a loving personality
• accommodation - ideally a spare bedroom, however we consider support care foster carers who would allow their own child or children to share with a matched child for regular support care breaks with you
